Overview

Recipes end up scattered across screenshots, bookmarks and a drawer of handwritten cards. MealFoundry gives them one home, and lets the weekly plan write the shopping list, so five in the afternoon starts with an answer instead of a question.

01

The problem

The expensive part of dinner is not the cooking. It is the five minutes where nobody can agree and the list has to be written from scratch.

02

The approach

One Swift backend and one OpenAPI contract serving two clients. A SwiftUI app for the Apple platforms and a React app for the web, with the same data behind them and two thoroughly native experiences on top.

03

What runs today

A recipe library, a weekly plan with shared and split days, shopping lists that add quantities together, and a pantry that subtracts from them. The whole surface exists in ten languages.

MealFoundry

What it does

Recipe library

Structured ingredients and steps, collections, and a search that finds the dish again in seconds.

Weekly plan

Drag dishes onto the week. Split a day per person, or let everyone eat the same thing.

Self-writing shopping list

The week adds up into one list, grouped the way you walk through the shop.

Pantry

A light count of your staples, so the list skips whatever is already in the cupboard.

Passwordless sign-in

A magic link by email. No password to forget, and no password to leak.

Ten languages

The whole app is translated and maintained in ten languages, not just the menus.
